Home from home support for seriously ill children

Vital support for seriously ill children and their families is being transformed, thanks to our unique project with national charity, WellChild.
Set up like a child’s bedroom, our new WellChild Better at Home training suite at Bostall House, Goldie Leigh simulates a home-from-home space in a safe environment. It allows our Greenwich and Bexley Children’s Community Nursing teams to work with parents and carers, so they can learn the often life-saving interventions needed by their child.
The aim of clinical skills training for parents and carers is to supportively nurture their competence and confidence in caring for their child, thus supporting early discharge from hospital and preventing hospital readmission.
Becks Mortimer, Head of Nursing for our children and young people’s services, said: “The difference this suite will make to patients is absolutely huge – we want to support our children with complex health needs to spend as short a time in hospital as possible and provide great out of hospital care.”
